2016: the year of fearlessness

Yes, I know I’m a little bit late on the New Year’s post. But, if you’re anything like me then you don’t always get started on the resolutions immediately. Sometimes it takes a few days (or two weeks) to get adjusted to a new year.

After the New Year, I always get some standard new things.

New makeup. I love Tarte. I’ve tried a lot of different foundations but always come back to this one, especially if you have sensitive skin.

New workout clothes. Victoria's Secret leggings and sport bras are my jam. Cute and comfortable.

This year, I treated myself to some new kicks from Asics that I'm mildly obsessed with.

And of course, a new candle. I always start my New Year with a new scent. I also do this for most major holidays. Although, I can’t really call this new because I’ve gotten it many times before. It’s my all time favorite scent from Anthropologie and it’s called “Volcano”. Also, they have the cutest matches I've ever seen in my life.

I wish I could send this scent through the screen. Seriously, just get this candle.

Ok, so we have gone through my new things. Let’s talk new resolutions. Every year has always been the same for me (as I’m sure it is for most people) which is get in shape, eat healthier, stop cussing, etc. This still stands, but this year I’m going a little deeper.

1. Stop mindlessly scrolling through social media. As a blogger, of course I am going to be interested in popular things on Pinterest or Instagram. Every once in a while though, I catch myself mindlessly scrolling through Facebook or Vine or Snapchat watching really dumb videos about cats riding on vacuums, babies covered in peanut butter, or completely pointless snapchat videos that I could really care less about (sorry guys); but I watch them anyway. I want this to stop. If I feel that bored to bog my mind with pointless things, I’m going to replace that with having a book near me at all times possible.

2. Work on my blog more. I started this as just a fun hobby; something to share all my creative projects in one spot. But I’ve completely fallen in love with the art of blogging and I plan to continue it. This year, I plan on working harder on getting it out to a larger audience. The great thing about the new blog site is that people will now be able to comment on my posts.

3. Face my fears. This is where things are getting real personal, my friends. Some of you may know this and some of you may not, but I have a pretty bad fear of flying. It has nothing to do with the fear that the plane may crash or that the plane may not even have a phalange (see what I’m talking about here). What it actually comes down to is anxiety and panic attacks. As it turns out, one of the biggest fears with anxiety is actually having a panic attack. So basically, you can have a panic attack about having a panic attack. So the idea of being on a plane and having a panic attack is absolutely terrifying. As silly as that may sound to some of you, it’s something that has affected my life since I was 15. This has always limited my options of what I can do in life. I have thought of so many cool things that I could possibly do, and then turned it away because of fear and anxiety. The idea of flying alone for a long period of time or to a new city or country away from my family is one of the scariest things I can think of. Which is why I am SO excited to announce that I am doing just that.

I found a beautiful family through Workaway in South West England who wants me to come work and live with them for three weeks. I will be cooking, gardening, and helping her sell her French antiques. And it’s all happening in one week. Just thinking about being that far away from home by myself terrifies me, and I can't wait.

Passport – check

Plane ticket – check

Accepting that I’m actually doing this – not just yet

2015 was not my best year. But I’m 18 days into 2016 and loving every minute of it. I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for me. And I’m SUPER excited to blog about food and furniture I discover in the UK.

So here's to 2016: the year of fearlessness.

Thanks, Birchbox :)

One last thing....New Year calls for new music. Check him out here.
